Summer School

Summer School 2016

Summer School credit recovery courses are offered through the WIU eAcademy online program. All core content areas will be available from grades 9-12. Students may enroll in a credit recovery course if they have taken a course already and did not achieve a passing grade.

All courses will be taught by certified teachers employed by Westmoreland County schools. Links to all the summer school programs can be found here. You should contact the individual school and make payments to those schools where your student will be taking their online course.

We will also offer one course for advancement, for FR students only. The eWellness course will be offered by Mr. Sill. This course can be taken by students to allow them to better able to schedule during the regular school year. There will be a mandatory online registration that each student will be required to complete prior to starting class.

Cost of all courses $150 (2015=6 price) Please contact your student's guidance counselor to find out which courses your child needs.

The districts of Belle Vernon, Burrell, Blairsville-Saltsburg, Kiski, and Norwin are pleased to offer credit recovery opportunities to your students.  Click the link below to access the 2016 Summer School Course Catalog.  These courses are open to ALL STUDENTS in ALL Districts.  Please distribute the catalog to your school counselors and administrative assistants, students, parents etc. You may also link to it on your school web site so parents can have easy access to credit recovery information.

Please read the following information carefully:

Only YOUR district can approve courses for credit recovery for YOUR students.

Each course comes with a course description to help you determine if that course will meet your district’s criteria for credit recovery. All courses have been designed with rigor and to ensure that students master the necessary skills to move onto the next level.  I recommend that principals and administrators brief their school counselors as to how to advise parents and which courses will be accepted by your district.  Please do not have parents call the hosting district to see if their course will be accepted by your district.

Summer school courses are intended for credit recovery and skill maintenance.  Students taking summer school courses for credit must have already taken and failed the course during the school year, unless otherwise noted.

Registration instructions are included on the first page of the course catalog. Parents can only register on the hosting districts’ web sites.  The IU does not register students for summer school.  Please make sure parents are aware of all registration deadlines and orientation dates.  Please direct questions to the hosting district.
