Mock Trial Team - 2015 District Final Winners and Westmoreland County Champions

 

 FR Mock Trial Team: 2015 Westmoreland County Champions  

The Mock Trial team recently won the district final and the Westmoreland Bar Foundation Championship. The team had an unbeaten record in the competition and beat Greensburg Salem in the final.

Subway Eat Freshmen - 2nd place at WIRC

 

On February 29, four teams - Subway Eat Freshmen, Readers Anonymous,Viva Les Livres, and Is There Food? - travelled to Seton Hill to take part in the high school division of the Westmoreland Interscholastic Reading Competition.  Subway Eat Freshmen placed second and Viva Les Livres placed sixth in a field of 39 teams. Congratulations to all team members!

MackinVIA e-Books: The library is participating in the MackinVIA e-Book Consortium along with other Pennsylvania schools. Use your school login to check out books or read them online!

 

Online research resources:

 

  • Sirs Knowledge Source is easy to navigate and is a great source for social studies and current affairs research. If you are using SIRS Knowledge Source from home the username is pl2211 (that's P-L-2211)  and the password is 15668.

JSTOR Database

 

             JSTOR online library of journals, academic ebooks, and primary sources.

JSTOR contains the full-text of more than 2,300 journals from 1,000 publishers, with publication dates ranging from 1665 to 2015 (for certain titles). Journals are available in more than 60 disciplines in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences and mathematics.

JSTOR contains more than 40,000 ebooks from academic publishers. The ebooks work just like journals, offering unlimited use and DRM-free chapter downloads in PDF format.

JSTOR includes more than two million primary sources.


   

  • PowerLibrary is an excellent research resource with databases on a wide range of subjects, from literature to the physical and social sciences.  When you're at school use the PowerLibrary link on this page or the one on the start menu.  

 

  • You can also search PowerLibrary from home via the PowerLibrary links at the Delmont Public Library and the Murrysville Community Library  websites. You will need a patron number, so if you are not already a member you now have a good reason to join.

It's really not that difficult to cite correctly. If you can follow an example, you can do perfect MLA citation. You don't need to remember everything, we have MLA citation manuals in the library that you can borrow. Also, the Online Writing Lab at Purdue University has an MLA guide with lots of examples.  Add it to your bookmarks and use it for all your assignments!!
